All In A Day’s Work BY WILLIAM KISSEL
Fashion is often fond of extravagance. And this season, there is certainly no shortage of limited-edition cashmere suits, vicuña coats trimmed in chinchilla, and bags, belts, and watchbands in ultra-exotic skins.
Fortunately, men’s clothing and accessory makers have created varied and versatile collections that meet the everyday needs of the stylish modern man. Sharp suits in superfine wools, sporty jackets in weatherproof cashmere and cotton, and silk tuxedos with just a bit of Bond — as in James Bond — are luxurious without going to extremes.
So whether you’re lounging around the house, dashing to the office, going for an afternoon drive, or preparing for a formal affair, this fall’s menswear has you covered.
At Ease
Why wear sloppy sweats when you can lounge around the house in silky style? What a way to start your day. Here, Lorenzini’s handmade striped silk pajama set, $745, is paired with the company’s handmade silk-lined cotton velvet robe, $1,200. Through Mach III, (212) 702-0136, www.lorenzini.it

Drive Time
Some clothing is made specifically to put you in the driver’s seat. For instance, Loro Piana’s cotton Roadster jacket, $1,995 (212-980- 7961, www.loropiana.com), was designed for classic car owners participating in Italy’s famed Roadster Villa D’Este auto show. Equally made for the road are Corneliani ID’s cashmere/silk tricolor turtleneck, $495 (212-593- 1155, www.corneliani.com); Isaia’s check cotton pants, $415, and aquacashmere and leather shoulder bag, $1,195 (212-245- 3733, www.isaia.it); Martin Dingman’s leather driving gloves, $175 (870-422-7151, www.martindingman.com); Chrome Hearts’ mahogany and 12k gold plate Moorehead sunglasses, $2,500 (310-945-3100, www.osainternational.com); and Tag Heuer’s Carrera chronograph watch with tachymeter on an alligator strap, $3,900 (866-675- 2080, www.tagheuer.com)
On The Clock
Suit makers may be talking up vicuña, cashmere, and other luxurious blends, but they haven’t completely left the “super” market behind. This year’s superfine wool clothing can be as durable as a super 120 to as fragile as a super 210 — the higher the number, the thinner the fiber used to construct the cloth. For a good all-around weight, look no further than Canali’s double-breasted, peak lapel super 160 wool suit, $2,795 (310-270-4200, www.canali.it). It’s worn with Oxxford Clothes’ cotton dress shirt, $375, and silk check tie, $160 (212-593-0204, www.oxxfordclothes.com); Roberto Coin’s Appassionata 18k white gold cufflinks, $2,020 (800-853-5958, www.robertocoin.com); Massimo Bizzocchi’s silk jacquard pocket square, $90 (212-702-0136, www.massbizz.com); Blinde by OSA International’s On Edge zyl eyeglasses, $245 (310-945-3100, www.osainternational.com); IWC’s rose gold Portuguese automatic watch on a crocodile strap, $18,600 (800-432-9330, www.iwc.com); and Dunhill’s sleek Sentryman double document case, $1,155 (212-753-9292, www.dunhill.com)
A Formal Affair
Some say the re-emergence of the classic single-button, peak lapel tuxedo — the barometer from which all variations are interpreted — might have been foreshadowed by all the serious pinstriped suits being shown on designer runways this past year. Gentlemen will appreciate the subtle textural complexity found on this Stefano Ricci single-button, peak lapel silk tuxedo, $4,800, worn with the designer’s cotton voile formal shirt, $800, and yellow gold and diamond cufflinks, $5,750 (212- 371-3901, www.stefanoricci.it). Paired here with a Thomas Pink polka dot silk bow tie, $60, and matching silk pocket square, $70 (212-838-1928, www.thomaspink.com); Bottega Veneta antique sterling silver and enamel lapel flower, $580 (877-362-1715, www.bottegaveneta.com); and Domenico Vacca diamond and crocodile face watch, $6,800 (212-759-6333, www.domenicovacca.com)
